Itinerary for the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu
Day 1 Cusco - Lares - Kiswarani
Our adventure begins very early, we will pick you up from your respective Hotel at 05:30, where we will board our private transportation and we will have a trip of approximately 2 hours until we reach the Calca Valley, where we will have our refreshing breakfast. We will continue our trip with destination to the hot springs of Lares, where our respective camping team will be waiting for us with our pack animals (horses or mules). After a brief presentation with the entire team and lunch, we will begin our walk until we reach the Kiswarani waterfall , in our Base will be spending the first night.
Day 2 Kiswarani - Paso Condor - Cancha Cancha
Our second day of hiking begins early at 6:00 am, with a nutritious breakfast to fuel us for the day ahead. Afterward, we set off towards Paso Cóndor, located at 4200 meters above sea level. Along the way, we’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views, with a unique and close-up look at the majestic glacier that towers over the landscape.
At the summit of Paso Cóndor, our guide will offer us a traditional cup of coconut mate, a natural remedy known to help combat altitude sickness (soroche). In this serene and spiritual spot, our guide will also conduct a sacred offering ceremony to the Apus, the revered mountains, including Sawasiray, which is considered a protector by local Andean cultures.
After soaking in the views and the ceremony, we’ll begin our descent towards the lakes. When we arrive, our team will be waiting for us with a delicious, energizing lunch. Refueled, we will continue our walk for approximately 1:30 hours until we reach our camp, where we can relax and prepare for the adventures of the following day.
Day 3 Cancha Cancha - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
Our day starts with a delicious breakfast before we continue our trek towards the town of Huaran. As we walk, we will immerse ourselves in the beautiful local flora and fauna, with the chance to experience the natural wonders of the area. Along the way, we’ll visit picturesque towns where locals still follow ancient Inca traditions, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Upon reaching Huaran, we will board a private bus that will take us to Ollantaytambo, known as “The Last Living Inca City.” Here, we will have plenty of time to explore the magnificent archaeological sites, including the impressive terraces and the ancient fortress that once played a key role in the Inca Empire. Afterward, you can stroll through the charming market, where local artisans sell their goods.
Before we head to our next destination, we’ll enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. Then, we will board the train that will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will settle in for a well-deserved rest overnight, ready for the exciting visit to Machu Picchu the following day.
Day 4 Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
This day is the most anticipated, as you will finally visit the iconic Machu Picchu! We will start early to catch the first bus to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, arriving just in time to enjoy the breathtaking sunrise over the ancient city. Once inside, you will have a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, during which our knowledgeable guide will take you through the most significant areas, sharing fascinating insights about the history and culture of this Inca wonder.
After the tour, your guide will bid you farewell, giving you the opportunity to explore the site at your own pace for around 3 more hours. You can visit the areas that interest you most, take photos, and soak in the magic of Machu Picchu. Once you are ready, you will descend to Aguas Calientes, where you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo. Our private transportation will then be waiting to take you back to Cusco, where you can rest after a memorable journey.
