Considerations: Keep in mind that the Lares trek can be cold due to its altitude, so be sure to bring warm clothing. The route is moderately challenging, ideal for those who prefer a slower pace compared to other Andean treks.
Recommended Season: Available year-round, but the dry season (April to October) is preferred for more stable weather.
Itinerary for the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu
Day 1 Cusco - Lares - Kiswarani
Our adventure begins very early, we will pick you up from your respective Hotel at 05:30, where we will board our private transportation and we will have a trip of approximately 2 hours until we reach the Calca Valley, where we will have our refreshing breakfast. We will continue our trip with destination to the hot springs of Lares, where our respective camping team will be waiting for us with our pack animals (horses or mules). After a brief presentation with the entire team and lunch, we will begin our walk until we reach the Kiswarani waterfall , in our Base will be spending the first night.
Day 2 Kiswarani - Paso Condor - Cancha Cancha
Our second day of hiking begins at 6:00 am, after our nutritious breakfast we will leave for Paso Cóndor at 4200 meters above sea level, where we will have beautiful panoramic views and a unique view of the glacier. At the top our guide will give you a cup of coconut mate, this will help us combat altitude sickness (soroche), our guide will perform an offering ceremony to the Apus (sacred mountains) Sawasiray.
We will descend until we reach the lakes, where our team will be waiting for us with our delicious lunch. We will continue our walk for approximately 1:30 min, until we reach our compartment and prepare for the next day.
Day 3 Cancha Cancha - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
Our day begins with our delicious breakfast, we will continue our walk until we reach the town of Huaran, during the walk we will be able to appreciate the local flora and fauna that it offers us, we will be able to visit some picturesque towns that still practice the ancient Inca traditions.
In Huaran we will board a private bus that will take us to Ollantaytambo “The last living Inca city”, we will have time to explore its magnificent archaeological sites and its picturesque market.
Then you will have time to have dinner at a local restaurant before boarding the train that will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night.
Day 4 Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
This day is the most important, because you will visit Machu Picchu! We will get up very early to take the first bus that will take us to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu where we can appreciate the beautiful sunrise. You will have a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, where our guide will show you the most important places.
At the end of the tour our guide will say good bye to the group, but that does not mean the tour is over. You will have time to visit Machu Picchu on your own for approximately 3 hours, then descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where you will board the train that will take us to the town of Ollantaytambo, where our private transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.
