Salkantay & Machu Picchu Hiking Itinerary
Day 1 Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Humantay Lagoon
Our adventure begins very early, we will pick you up from your respective hotel at 04:00 am, and then we will go to the town of Mollepata, where our delicious buffet breakfast will be waiting for us. We will continue our journey until we reach Soraypampa, where we will have a walk of approximately 2 hours until we reach the famous Humantay lagoon, where you will be amazed by its beautiful turquoise color, our guide will give you a little information about the place, we will return to our camp located in Soraypampa.
Day 2 Soraypampa - Paso Salkantay - Huayracmachay - Chaullay
On the second day, your guide will wake you up with a hot cup of tea or coffee before having our breakfast. We will embark on a challenging 22-kilometer hike to the highest point, the Apacheta Pass, which offers views of the Salkantay Peak. and a diverse fauna where we will stop to explore and take photographs.
After a rest, we will descend 7 kilometers to Huayracmachay for lunch. The second half of the hike takes us through the rocky valley, transitioning into the Amazon rainforest. The 8km trail reveals vibrant landscapes and exotic flora.
We will arrive at our camp located in Chaullay where our delicious dinner will be waiting for us.
Day 3 Chaullay - La Playa - Lucmabamba
On the third day we will wake up at 6:00 am and enjoy a coca tea before embarking on a five-hour walk through the Santa Teresa Valley. During our walk you will be able to see a great variety of birds, fruit plantations, cocoa and coffee plantations.
At La Playa Sahuayaco we will take local transportation until we reach the town of Santa Teresa, where we will have our lunch. We will take the opportunity to visit the hot springs of Cocalmayo (this visit is optional), after a good dip we will return to our camps to prepare for the next day.
Day 4 Santa Teresa - Hidroeléctrica -Aguas Calientes
This day starts very early, we will take transportation that will take us. The fourth day we will start early and take a short transportation to Lucmabamba where we will visit its famous Inca ruins, you will be able to see Machu Picchu from the other side of the valley.
We will continue our walk for 2 hours until we reach the hydroelectric plant, where our lunch will be waiting for us. From this point we will have two options to get to Aguas Calientes, we can take the local train or walk until we reach our destination. When we arrive at the town of Aguas Calientes you will have time to check in at your hotel (book in advance), and then meet our guide who will give us a little information for our magnificent day.
Day 5 Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
This day is the most important, because you will visit Machu Picchu! We will get up very early to take the first bus that will take us to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu where we can appreciate the beautiful sunrise. You will have a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, where our guide will show you the most important places.
At the end of the tour our guide will say goodbye to the group, but that does not mean the tour is over. You will have time to visit Machu Picchu on your own for approximately 3 hours, then descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where you will board the train that will take us to the town of Ollantaytambo, where our private transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.
